Audance is a networked interactive music web app, allowing users to make music together in real time over the internet.

It was my graduate thesis at ITP. Here is a video of me talking about it for Thesis Week.

Audance combined elements from several previous interactive music projects I had worked on in grad school, continuing my exploration of the computer as a musical instrument for self-identified “non-musicians.” Taking the keyboard, mouse, and webcam as inputs, this app turns gestures familiar to anyone who’s ever used a computer into musical expression.

Originally designed as a web app for home use, I worked with installation designers Matt Ross and Louise Lessel to adapt Audance for public installation as part of the American Design Club’s Sound and Vision Showcase in Times Square.
